Behind the Scenes with Edward James Olmos

Behind the Scenes with Edward James Olmos

The exhibition was brought to Cal State LA by the Perfect Exposure Gallery, a local gallery celebrating the work of award winning and accomplished photojournalists and photographers. Free of charge to the public, its exhibits exemplify the rich variety and impact of photography and freedom of expression.

The exhibition documents the career of Cal State LA alumni, Edward James Olmos. This series of fine photographic prints represents eleven films, thirty five years of work and forty years of friendship with photographer, John Castillo.

John Castillo 35-year career as an independent photographer began as an apprentice to Hollywood glamour photographer, Douglas Kirkland. Specializing in the performing arts, Castillo’s work includes motion pictures, theatre, music, and celebrity portraiture. He worked as a project manager, photo editor and photographer on Americanos, a multimedia project sponsored by time Warner and the Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives. A mentor for over 15 years, Castillo also served on the Board of Directors for the Dram Project, which funds art and education projects for underserved children in his community.
